The Associated Student Federation’s (ASF) constitution has been amended. In the elections held this week, 217 students voted with 180 votes in favor of the revisions. A two-thirds majority was needed to pass the amendment.
With the constitution having been amended, elections for a president, three new forum members and two new student representatives will get underway. Now knowing what the requirements for the applicants are, the Forum can begin to focus on filling the positions that are vacant.
“I am hoping that with the qualifications being lessened that we’ll have more people interested in becoming candidates for the positions still available,” said President Pro-Tem Rose Mangahis. “I don’t know what we’ll do if we do not get a president out of this upcoming election.”
Applications will be made available, Monday, Oct. 3, and will be due Monday, Oct. 10. Students can pick them up at the Student Center desk or at the ASF office. Once applications are in, speeches will start off the campaigning Tuesday, Oct. 11, at noon. Presidential elections will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the University Seal, Oct. 17-18 and 20-21.
Students who are not elected as president may run for a Forum representative or new student representative.
Elections will be held at the Seal, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 24-25 and 27-28.
Mangahis admits the ASF Forum seems to be taking a great deal of time getting the presidential elections underway.
”We need ample time to publish the results of the elections regarding the constitution’s revisions, accept applications and campaign,” stated Mangahis.
