“If it is to be, it is up to me.” This motto is the Associated Student Federation (ASF) Forum’s theme for the 1994-95 academic year.
With the Forum’s Las Vegas retreat behind them and fresh ideas in tow, some exciting and different activities are planned for this spring.
ASF President Chris Braunstein is thrilled about the new Forum.
“I am very excited for this semester, because we just came back from a strong retreat. Everybody has a positive attitude, and we’re sure excited about getting things ready for spring,” he said. “Spring is usually a very lackluster time for event planning because usually everyone tries to put all energies into the fall, and spring doesn’t turn out as good. Everyone is focused, though, and ready to do more than ever.”
Feb. 11 brought ULV students back into the swing of things with a “Welcome Back Dance” sponsored by ASF and the football team.
The Alpha Experience was also a highlight for students yesterday, as the Student Center was host to a new attraction very similar to the “Star Tours” attraction at Disneyland.
ASF Secretary Julie Eklund, a first year student, was excited about the whole idea of Alpha Experience.
“We’ve never had anything like it at La Verne. One of the most difficult things is to try and come up with brand new activities for the students, and we’re hoping that they enjoy it,” she said.
Virtual Reality is coming back to campus on March 3. It has received an equally positive response in the past when ASF has sponsored it.
ASF will also feature Cultural Week, April 3-7. ASF Elections for the 1995-96 year will be April 24-25, and the Spring Formal is scheduled at the Long Beach Hyatt on April 29.
Rich Quesada, co-chair of the Spring Formal Committee, is looking forward to seeing the committee’s hard work come together.
“Spring Formal is going to be big. We are planning on a Catalina trip for the next day after the formal,” he said. “It is going to be excellent.”
In May, ASF will sponsor the Lip Sync Show, tentatively scheduled for May 2. A new idea, Spirit Day, will happen the week of May 8-12. An end of the year party will conclude the school year on May 28.
Other events include Commuter Day on March 16; and Wellness Week, March 20-26.
Braunstein reiterated the importance and meaning for the Forum’s existence.
“I think that the Forum is on a big upswing, because we [ASF] are ready to do a lot for the students. We are here for the students,” he said.
