While most students were taking a break between January Interterm and the Spring Semester, the Maintenance Department utilized University property to sell parking for the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Winter Nationals on Feb. 3-5.
According to Jeff Boster, safety specialist in the Operations Department, they decided they would sell parking at the Far West Auto Parts parking lot.
The lot, which is located at First and E Streets, was leased by the University a few months ago.
“The previous owners sold parking during the races so we thought we’d do the same,” said Boster.
The Maintenance Department raised $1,400 and donated $900 of that total to the Mainiero Arts Institute.
The Institute was established to provide courses in the fine arts through a bridge program between the Bonita Unified School District and ULV. Currently, there are 11 students in the program.
For three days Boster, his wife, nephew and senior Kevin South sold parking for $10 per car.
Boster plans to sell parking again in October for the Fall Nationals.
