Kathy Doyle, former accounting department supervisor, was appointed to the position of controller earlier this month, filling the position vacated when Steve Grey was promoted to chief financial officer last November.

According to a memo sent out by Grey, Doyle, who has worked for the University for four years, will now be responsible for the general ledger accounting, annuities, trusts, endowments, student loan accounting, collections, gift records and the annual audit.

Doyle has a couple new projects she would like to complete as controller, including computer imaging.

“We will be able to integrate into our software and pull up copies of our purchase orders and invoices with just a click of a mouse,” she said. “We are really excited about that, even though it’s down the road a little bit.”

Doyle also hopes that computer imaging will spread to other parts of the campus, including the Financial Aid Department.

Currently, the University is trying to find a replacement for Doyle’s former position of Accounting Department Supervisor. Once a replacement is hired and trained, work will begin on the imaging project.

Another of Doyle’s goals is to obtain software for the University’s investment program.

“We don’t have that now,” she said. “We manually do all our investment work by hand.”

Doyle graduated with a degree in business from California State University at Fullerton, and before coming to La Verne, worked for 17 years as an accountant and office manager of a law office.

“It was a really different environment,” she said.

Doyle is married and has one son, a UCLA graduate, and a cat. Outside of work, she enjoys riding bicycles, playing tennis and watching C-SPAN.
