L.A. County Fair

Just down the street lies one of the few places in the Inland Valley where one can discover exotic foods, wines, carnival amusements, rides, racing pigs and horses, and every imaginable vendor for shopping fanatics; all in one place.

It is the Los Angeles County Fair, opening today, and it is waiting in ULV’s backyard for a predicted throng of 1.4 million visitors.

The Fair is open Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and weekends from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $4 for children and $6 for seniors, plus parking. Students can purchase tickets at the book store for $5.

KULV will also be giving away free tickets to the fair all next week to lucky callers who can answer trivia questions. Tune in for your chance to win!

Concerts at the Fair

Marlboro Music Tours presents two country music concerts, free with fair admission, on Sept. 9 and 10. Rick Trevino, a 23 year old bilingual artist, headlines with Pam Tillis, Country Music Awards Female Vocalist of the Year. Smokin’ Armadillos, a six member group, ages 18 to 25, are the opening act.

Bronco headlines a Latino concert on Sunday, which will highlight the growing music format.

Star Trek

For all the Trekkers on campus, Elena Cardeña, Catholic campus minister, and Campus Ministry are presenting the Holy Hour Coffee House every Monday from 7 to 10 p.m. in the Chapel. Guests will be able to watch “Star Trek” while enjoying fresh coffee from Lordsburg Coffee Roasters.

Raging Waters

Raging Waters in San Dimas is having a half price ticket special today only. Just bring in a canned food donation to enjoy this special deal.

‘A Dream Play’

Auditions for the Dailey Theatre production of “A Dream Play,” by August Strindberg, will be held next Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 13-14, 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Cabaret Theatre. Everyone is welcome.

Upcoming concerts

Looking for a little entertainment close to home? The Epicenter in Rancho Cucamonga is hosting two concerts for music lovers in the upcoming week.

Tuesday, Sept. 12, the City of Rancho Cucamonga is presenting Chicago, with special guest Tango Nato, at 8 p.m. For more information, call (800) 946-3860.

For country music lovers, Willie Nelson will be performing on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Ticket prices range from $12 to $35.50. For additional information, call the Epicenter ticket office at (909) 481-5252.

Van Halen will be performing with special guests Skid Row and Brother Cave at the Glen Helen Blockbuster Pavilion at Glen Helen Regional Park in Devore on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. For more information on tickets, contact the Pavilion at 909-886-8742.

‘Eternity’ sinks its fangs into ULV’s audience

Senior theater major Jordan Wycoff,directed “Eternity” as her senior thesis project. The final performance was held on Oct. 24 in the Cabaret with a full house. The rock and roll ballad featured a number of students from the University.

Dibbell’s vibrance, positivity are remembered

With a fiery and compassionate spirit – from the hems of her colorfully flowing tunics, to her spiky white-blond hair, laughing blue eyes and altruistic tendencies – recently retired University of La Verne Associate Professor of Theatre Jane Reilly Dibbell consistently demonstrated purity of heart.
