Ready for a hot cup of coffee to start out your morning? How about a “Hot Cup O’ Rob?” KULV, the University’s radio station, began airing its new morning radio show this week, hosted by sophomore Rob Strauss. The show airs every morning at 7:30 a.m.
Before the first show aired, Strauss said, “We want to keep it fun. We won’t be dealing with serious issues.”
“We want good music, humor and campus information,” said Strauss.
Andrew Alekel, KULV program director, said the show will feature current events, such as what will happen on campus during the week. It will also have a Short Sports Report on Fridays which will cover upcoming games and report scores from previous games.
Later on in the semester, Strauss and Alekel, who co-produce, want to air the show from different locations around campus.
Alekel said this could motivate the students to listen to the show more and let them know of what activities are happening that very moment.
Though they have only been on the air for a week, ULV students are tuning in to “Hot Cup O’ Rob” and seem pleased.
“I like it because I just won Fair tickets,” said Wendy Higgins, junior.
Of course there are others who do not know there is a radio show going on. Perhaps they should listen more carefully since, “they ask easy questions for you to win,” said Higgins.
Yet, others have strong opinions about the show, like Aundre Wright, a junior.
“It’s cool, but they need to play more R&B, rap, and oldies,” said Wright.
Everyone has a preference as far as music goes, and therefore, Strauss said that he was going to try to play as much variety as he could.
To make the show more appealing, Strauss wants to have guests drop in once in a while. Though that is still in the works, he is hoping it will turn out as planned.
“Hot Cup O’ Rob” airs Monday through Friday from 7:30-9:30 a.m. They are keeping the show for all of the fall semester and, if things go well, you could be waking up with a “Hot Cup O’ Rob” all year long.
