Burns dies of cancer

After a lengthy battle against cancer, La Verne Burns died on Sept. 3 at approximately 5 p.m. at Hillcrest Convalescent Home in La Verne.

She was a valued employee of the ULV Registrar’s Office for more than 10 years, working most recently as a part-time clerical typist.

Burns served as executive producer of the Miss La Verne Pageant for more than 23 years and also served on the La Verne Chamber of Commerce for more than five years.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Monday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery in West Covina. In leiu of flowers, the family has requested gifts be made to the University of La Verne Scholarship fund in her memory.

She is survived by her husband, Forrest, and her two sons.
