Tired of losing your sacred washing machine quarters in the problematic coke machines in the Oaks Residence halls? Recent problems with vending machines in the Oaks residence halls have now been resolved.
Julie Thurman, area coordinator for the Oaks, has placed a new order of vending machines with the local Coca-Cola distribution center.
Thurman said the change in the machines came not only because of faulty machines, but due to a new policy that the distributor now coincides with.
“The Coca-Cola service people have had problems delivering stock to the top floors as it is difficult to carry the cases upstairs. Their labor board regulates that the cases need to be delivered in a certain fashion and that they are unable to deliver the stock under these guidelines due to lack of an elevator. Unfortunately, Coca-Cola has decided to remove the vending machines from the top floors in the next few weeks,” said Thurman.
The addition of the new machines brings a new variety of beverages to the residents. Not only will the old Coca-Cola machines be replaced with newer ones, but the addition of new beverage companies will be added. These new additions will be Fruitopia, Naya drinking water, and a PowerAde sports drink machine.
The decision on the new machines was made via a survey done by Thurman. She recently surveyed all the Oaks residents in order to see what they wanted. She then tallied up the percentages of what each floor wanted and tried to best suit each floor by their surveys.
Seniors Keith and Kevin White both said that it would be a good idea to have a fruit juice machine rather than a Coke machine because Coke is actually unhealthy for the body.
Freshman Celena Bliss said, “It is a good change because in the past the Cokes have been hot, so it’s cool to have the new machines.”
Along with the addition of the new machines, Thurman made a new “Lost Vending Machine Money” form in which students who lose their money can fill out and be reimbursed.
