With the conclusion of another semester, the academic administration of the University of La Verne has chosen its recipients for the dean’s list for fall 1996.
The dean’s list is issued at the end of each full term to honor undergraduates who have excelled in their courses. There are, however, specific regulations to be met in order to be eligible for the list.
“Many students are not aware of the requirements necessary for the dean’s list,” said Charlotte Neill, administrative assistant to the dean. “A number of undergraduates will call us at the end of the semester, wondering why they were not chosen for the list, although they attained a 3.6 grade point average.”
In order to be eligible for this merit, students must be full-time traditional undergraduates with a minimum grade point average of 3.75 or higher. The GPA is accumulated from a minimum of 12 units, excluding courses with a Credit/No Credit standing.
Students who complete In Progress (IP) and Incomplete (INC) standings can petition at another date in order to be placed on the list at a later time.
Undergraduate students are eligible for more than just merit through the Dean’s Scholarship. According to GPA, an undergraduate may also receive financial assistance through the University.
Students who demonstrate excellence in academics are entitled to a number of financial merits through the University, including either the Dean’s Scholarship or the President’s Scholarship.
Each award varies, dependent upon an individual’s fall semester grade point average.
The Dean’s Scholarship is a tuition scholarship awarded to students who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or above.
Undergraduate students who attain the highest academic achievement are recognized through the President’s Scholarship. This tuition scholarship is granted to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or above, and can also be renewed as long as the minimum cumulative GPA is maintained.
“While the merit scholarships may assist students in terms of motivation,” stated Bob Peters, financial aid director, “the award was developed more to acknowledge and reward the accomplishments of students based on their records of academic achievements.”
