Dr. André Delbecq will be on campus next Monday and Tuesday to speak about “The Challenges of Spirituality and the Executive Life,” as part of the Fasnacht Lecture Series.
Dr. Delbecq, a widely published author, is also a professor of management in the Leavey School of Business and Administration at Santa Clara University.
Currently he is completing his 12th month of sabbatical research in the role of spirituality and leadership.
A committee comprised of the Philosophy/Religion Department, Dr. John Gingrich, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Trustees and students meets to organize a biannual event such as this.
“We wanted to look at a new angle as it pertains to faith within different religions on campus,” said Don Flora, director of church relations.
Dr. Delbecq is “nationally recognized for executive programs delivered to high technology industries,” as stated in previous profiles.
He authored more than 80 articles which appeared in scholarly journals and books. Dr. Delbecq will speak to the La Verne community about issues which are “pertinent to everyday life, not just on Sunday,” said Flora.
The speech is intended to challenge students and faculty and to discuss issues that are “in the minds of the business world,” said Flora.
The lecture will take place in Founders Hall, on Tuesday at 10 a.m., in name of the Fasnacht Lecture Series, which according to Flora, fits in “perfectly.”
“[Dr. Harold] Fasnacht believes these issues are [part of] daily life.” According to Flora the lecture will have an impact for individuals of “both worlds.”
Dr. Fasnacht was president of La Verne College from 1948 to 1968. In 1985, the Fasnacht Chair of Religion was established to:
1) Afford a high visibility to the “Christian presence” on the ULV campus;
2) Bring recognition to the University for its Christian scholarship;
3) Encourage dialogue between the Christian faith and the various academic disciplines at the University; and
4) To assist in the development of Christian leaders.
