LV tunes for tournament with win over Santa Cruz

The University of La Verne ended the regular season last Saturday with a 15-5, 15-7, 16-14, home victory over UC Santa Cruz.

La Verne was led by senior opposite hitter Ryan Allen, who had 17 kills, three service aces and two solo blocks. The Leopards also got a solid contribution from junior outside hitter Chris Peterson. Peterson had 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .320.

The Leopards as a team hit .301 to .122 of Santa Cruz. La Verne had 54 kills to 38 of Santa Cruz and seven blocks to five by Santa Cruz.

A week earlier, the Leopards defeated CSU San Bernardino in three, 15-10, 15-5 and 15-5.

La Verne never let the Coyotes in the match. CSUSB had two team blocks to La Verne’s 14. As a result, the Leopards hit .556 as a team, and San Bernardino only hit .264 as a team.
