As the Leopards took the track and the light drizzle fell upon them from the sky last Saturday, the University of La Verne track team also fell short of its opponents.
The women’s team ended up with scores such as, Whittier 63, ULV 44, and Occidental 97, ULV 38. However, some of the women did well individually.
Senior track standout Katrina Hall made the most of her day, finishing first in three events.
Hall had a time of 15.57 in the 100m hurdles, jumped 5.08m in the long jump, which was .6 more meters then second place jumper Laura Swanson from Occidental and leaped her way to 10.77m in the triple jump event, .66 more meters than the second place jumper.
“Honestly, I ran very bad, although I won, because it was freezing,” Katrina Hall said. “It was also a bad day for jumping. They should of canceled the meet. It was too cold for the meet. Overall, it effected everyone at the meet. I believe every team had a bad day.”
Junior Lynsey Best placed fourth in the 100m with a time of 13.97 and came in seventh place in the triple jump event at 9.49m.
Also coming in first place in two events was junior Eboni White. She threw the shot put 11.29m and the discuss 37.99m.
The men’s team went much the same way. Whittier beat La Verne, 91-71 and Occidental won 99-62.
Freshman Adrian Bean placed third in the 100m, with a time of 11.39. Freshman teammate Ryan Travaille was just four places behind Bean for seventh place at 11.55. Travaille not only ran but jumped and threw throughout the day as well. In the long jump he placed third, 6.34 ft., and in the javelin, he threw 46.20m, placing sixth.
However, senior Michael P. Bailey placed first in the javelin, throwing 53.54m. Bailey also was in fourth place for the discus throw, with a distance of 41.05m.
La Verne dominated in the discus event, having freshman Steve Myers place third, 42.58m, junior John Mamea came in fourth, 40.81m and Sean Smith threw for fifth place, 40.31m. Smith also placed first in the shot put event, throwing it 13.56m.
Junior Ordell Williams came in second place in the 400m event with a time of 50.09, just .29 seconds behind the first place runner for that event from Whittier College.
