For the University of La Verne men’s and women’s cross country teams, the 55th Annual Aztec Cross Country Invitational last Saturday was more like a stretch of the legs than a photo finish.
Freshman Mario Guerrero, who placed 46th, was the top runner for ULV with a time of 29:59. Freshman Hermes Iribe finished right behind Guerrero in 30:03.
Sophomore Faust Obeso (66th, 31:47) and freshman Dan Kiminki (82nd, 34:22) rounded out the field for the men’s squad.
The ULV women’s team shared the same fate, as its top runner (freshman Quency Long) ran 115th in 24:09; Junior Maxine Mitchell finished 119th in 24:39; freshman Mary Terry in 26:34 and freshman Trisha Garcia in 28:30 ended the day in 133rd and 140th places, respectively, rounding out the order of finish for ULV.
