Campus Comment: What are your thoughts on impeachment inquiry?

For only the third time in this country’s history, Congress has formally begun impeachment hearings on a President. Members of the University of La Verne campus were randomly asked their positions.

In favor of the process:

"I suppose it's the right thing to do, looking into him lying. But, I'm just so sick of hearing about his personal life. I just wish they would let it drop." Tara Ervin Sophomore, Athletic Training Undecided

"I have read that impeaching the president would not be good for Republicans or Democrats or the nation at large. What he did was not a wise choice, but I don't think it's an impeachable offense. I'd like to focus on health care, poverty, crime -- things that affect a whole lot of people." Dr. Sharon Davis Professor of Sociology and Criminology Democrat

"It's a personal issue. He did lie to the American people, but it's not really a government matter. We, as taxpayers, are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for something we don't really care about. Trust in American people is down but his job satisfactory poll is up." "I have mixed feelings on this issue. Things need to be cleared up for the public. I believe that the President is responsible to answer certain questions to the public about what happened. However, because of the media, I feel that people are more concerned with the affair than the crime. I wonder if the President had been involved with other crimes besides the affair how would people react." Guchi Sakaduchi Senior, Sociology and Art International Student

‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ repeal is a start

On Sept. 20 the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which was introduced in 1993 by President Clinton and allowed homosexual members of the military to serve only if their sexuality remained secret or unreported, was finally repealed.

Let’s not hound our heros

The Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy that prohibits homosexuals in the military from revealing their sexuality is currently being reviewed in the courts, but the process has gone slowly. We believe Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell should be repealed immediately.
