This weekend the Communications Department will host a two day screening of the winning selections of its recent Multicultural Video Festival. The viewing’s will take place both Saturday and Sunday starting at 7p.m. in La Fetra Auditorium.
The Multicultural Video Festival took place as a result of a faculty diversity grant that was awarded to the Communications Department by the James Irvine Foundation.
More than $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded in three categories: elementary and intermediate school; high school and college; and open category. This year, there were 38 entries in the Festival.
A compilation video of the Festival’s highlights will be shown on 100 cable access stations throughout Southern California.
“This is our way of encouraging film makers in Southern California to deal with issues of diversity in film,” said Associate Professor of Communications and Festival Chairman Don Pollock.
“We are pleased that word is getting out that the University of La Verne is in the forefront of dealing with multicultural issues,” said Pollock.
