The University of La Verne’s Associated Student Federation (ASF) Forum met in the West Dining Room Wednesday, April 14, at 8:35 a.m. Forum members updated plans for future student activities and reviewed plans for Earth Week.

Don Flora, women’s volleyball coach, and Lura Poggi, director of University Relations, also requested donations from the Forum for the renovation of the Hanawalt Center.

Upcoming Events

Among the plans under way for upcoming student activities, the Forum has organized a Free Day of Fun, a night of bowling and an evening of entertainment as some of its events.

A Free Day of Fun, which is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 7, will feature entertainment specialties such as a velcro wall, mock Sumo wrestling, a money vault and balloon-bounce boxing.

The Forum is also looking into a bowling night for ULV students at Chaparral Lanes in San Dimas May 13.

In addition, ASF will sponsor an evening of entertainment at Bullwinkle’s Family Fun Center in Upland. Among the features at the event will be miniature golf and go-cart racing, as well as other specialties.

Thus far, complete details of these events have not been confirmed. Specific information about each of these events will be posted through advertisement and fliers in the future.

Earth Week

Involving itself in the annual Earth Week, the Forum will co-sponsor several events for next week’s Earth Week celebrations.

Monday, a Teach-in Program to discuss the situations in Kosovo is scheduled to take place in the Quad, and on Tuesday, an Earth Fair will be in the Quad from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Other events for Tuesday include a discussion of the environmental hazards of the Rock at 2 p.m. at the Rock, and an Earth Summit debate in the Cabaret Theatre at 3 p.m.

“Earth First!,” a program in La Fetra Hall in which environmentalists will share thoughts on eco-defense and radical journalism, will be presented Thursday. On Friday, an electric car displayed in the University Mall will demonstrate the advances of electricity and technology in today’s world.

Hanawalt Center

The Forum voted to allocate a total of $5,000 for renovations to the Hanawalt Fitness Center. The funds will be donated to the Athletics Department pending stipulations to extend hours of the Center.
