Jack Kyser, nicknamed “the guru” of the Los Angeles economy by the Los Angeles Business Journal, spoke Monday in the President’s Dining Room at the University of La Verne.

Kyser is responsible for interpreting and forecasting economic trends in the Southland. His presentation entitled, “Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: The Changing Picture of the Area Economy Implications for the Social, Political and Educational Communities,” dealt with the economic trends in the Los Angeles five-county area, including Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.

Kyser serves on the Economic Policy Council of the California Institute, the research and policy arm of the California congressional delegation.

His service to the business community also includes a position on the board of directors of the Foreign Trade Association of Southern California, the Greater Los Angeles World Trade Center Association, the South Park Economic Development Corporation and the Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Los Angeles.

Kyser’s focus on the Southland presented the uniqueness of Los Angeles. He compared the advanced technology of business and community that coexists with Third World living conditions.
