The University of La Verne women’s basketball team has had a tough season, but has never quit in its pursuit for excellence.

In the last few games the Leopards have played some of the premier teams in their conference and stood their ground. Despite the 8-13 overall record, ULV is 2-7 in conference, but the last three losses have come on a combined 10 points.

“I like the way we have progressed this season overall. In the last four games we have proven we can play with the top teams,” said coach Julie Kline.

On Tuesday the Leopards forced first place Whittier College into overtime. The Poets (8-2 in SCIAC) were outplayed by La Verne, but managed to score a 63-58 win after outscoring the Leopards 10-5 in the overtime period. Freshman Sydni Myrick had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for ULV.

On Feb. 6, the Leopards were added a win to their record with a 72-57 victory over the University of Redlands. Sophomore A.J. Tsapanos contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds to turn the Leopards’ two point half-time deficit into a “W.”

The victory was a great rebound from the team’s upsetting loss to second place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Feb. 2. The then first place Athenas managed a 60-58 victory.

On Jan. 30, the Leopards tenacity had a better pay off as they defeated Occidental College at home 57-37.

The Leopards next game will be on the road tonight at 5:30 p.m. against Cal Lutheran.
