The Classified Employee of the Year award is an award given to recognize an employee at the University of La Verne who has demonstrated an excellence in the workplace.
“Recognizing the excellent work of our dedicated employees is important. All of us appreciate being recognized for the good things we do,” said President Stephen Morgan.
There are five specific areas of criteria that the classified committee looks for in nominations. The committee looks for an employee who has demonstrated an outstanding job performance at ULV.
“Going beyond ‘just doing your job,'” said Diana Towles, secretary to the president.
The committee also looks for achievements an employee may have achieved in any major work related goals, one’s service to the ULV community and the promotion of collegiality and leadership skills that may have been demonstrated in the work place.
“Performing their job in an exemplary fashion,” said Morgan on his views of part of the criteria for a classified employee nominee.
Another requirement is that an individual must have been employed for at least one year.
A memo along with an application form was sent throughout the University on Feb 26, allowing about a month or so for people to submit their nomination forms. A selection committee consisting of six to seven members which include Morgan, two classified committee members, two faculty and two Administrative Professional employees are picked to read through and select a recipient from the submitted nominee forms.
“Anyone can nominate and there can be more than one recommendation for a nominee,” said Towles.
The recipient of the award receives a plaque; their name engraved onto the employee of the year plaque which is hung in the Founders Hall display case, a cash award as well as recognition for a job well done from President Morgan.
Past employee of the year awards include Peggy Morrison the 1997 recipient, Brett Schmidt, 1998; Alene Harrison, 1999; and last year’s recipient Jack Ward. These were employees who all stood out and were recognized for their work.
Towles said the Classified Employee of the Year award was started years ago due to requests made through the Classified Committee. The award is given out yearly and is presented at the Employee Recognition and Services Award Town Meeting.
This year’s awards ceremony is planned for May 16 this year. The nomination forms for the classified employee of the year award are due today at noon to the Office of the President.
