The University of La Verne golf team gave its best effort in the NCAA Division III Championships in St. Louis, but finished in 16th place.
The Leopards started off the tournament in 20th place after day one. They improved to finish with a team total of 101 strokes over par.
Their efforts placed them as the No. 16 team in the tournament.
The Leopards conference player of the year, freshman Joe Skovron finished at plus 24. After day one, Skovron was ranked 28 individually in the tournament. He finished the tournament respectively in 64th place along with junior Karl Schubert.
Schubert, a first team All-Conference player also shot 24 over par during the tournament.
Freshman Joe Murray finished off the tournament with 77 round and a total of 25 over par.
The Leopards finished off the year with a second place finish in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Leopards finished off the tournament higher than SCIAC champions Cal Lutheran.
The Leopards return all golfers next year except senior Paul Gomez.
Cal Lutheran finished the tournament at No. 21.
The University of Redlands was finished 10th with a score of +77.
At press time, three teams were battling for the No. 1 spot in the nation. Wisconsin Eau Claire led at +19, but the lead was slim over Guilford College who was at +20. Methodist College was also hanging around at +23 for the tournament.
Guilford College leads the tournament by a stroke over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Methodist College was three shots behind the leader looking to upset.
