Jazz Concert

Tonight, the Swingin’ Deacons, a jump blues band, are performing at the Depot Jazz Series at the Claremont Depot Transit Station in Claremont at 200 W. First St. This is the second of four Friday night performances, with two more to follow in the coming weeks. Classical Concert

On Wednesday, Oct. 10, the ULV Chorale and Chamber Singers, along with conductor Scott Farthing, present “Bach’s Lunch,” a concert also featuring Timothy Durkovic on piano and Michael Ryan and Brian Wichert on guitar. Lunch will be available for $5, and showtime is at 11:30 a.m.

Theme Park

Knott’s Scary Farm in Buena Park has its 29th annual Halloween Haunt begins this weekend. The scarefest runs nights from Oct. 5-7, 11-14, 18-21, 25-28, 30-31 and Nov. 2-3. This year features five new mazes, and three “sinister” new shows. Admission prices vary. Call 714-220-5200 for more information.

Movies

Two major movies open this weekend: “Training Day,” starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, deals with a police officer in training in the inner city. The other movie, “Serendipity,” starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsdale, is the romantic comedy of the weekend.

A fun-filled, sometimes classical, sometimes Irish pub style hand-clapping evening of Irish cultural music and dance captivated a near capacity audience on Sunday at the “Spirit of Ireland” themed concert in the University of La Verne’s Morgan Auditorium.
