In commemoration of the 2002 graduating class, the University of La Verne’s Leadership Development and Transition Program hosted the Senior Class Pizza Party Wednesday.
Brian MorganArmstrong, leadership development and transition program director, said that the pizza party was an opportunity to give seniors their freshman letters and a break from all of their overwhelming activities.
The seniors received a book, titled “Life After Graduation,” which gives a variety of advice to graduating seniors. According to MorganArmstrong, this is the first time ULV has had an event such as the pizza party because many of the traditional events did not have much participation.
During the hour-long event, about one hundred seniors picked up their freshman letters. Veronica Garcia, senior behavioral science and Spanish double major, said it was great to read her freshman letter because she has changed so much during the past four years.
“It gave us the opportunity to reflect and notice how much our lives have changed in these four years, and how much we have accomplished,” Garcia said.
This event is one of the many that the different programs and departments have offered to seniors during their last semester at ULV. MorganArmstrong said the pizza party was set in a nice hangout environment so they would have a nice, personal goodbye to ULV.
Yesenia Ramirez, a senior liberal studies major, said she was excited when she read her freshman letter, adding that many things have changed in her life since she wrote that letter. However, she said that she is really glad she made it.
MorganArmstrong said planning activities for students is challenging, especially toward the end of the year. However, many seniors showed up to enjoy their pizza party.
