To raise awareness on Asian American month, UC Santa Barbara professor Kip Fulbeck visited the University of La Verne to inform students and faculty on Asian American stereotypes he has encountered.

Informative signs have also been posted around campus containing the stereotypes and achievements that Asian Americans have gone through.

Fulbeck teaches art and is a video maker; he shared abstract and contemporary on integration, perceptions, and stereotypes of Asian Americans.

“The presentation wasn’t well attended,” said Derek Vergara, director for Multicultural Research and Campus Diversity.

“I really don’t think people know much about the Asian American culture to recognize a group that has contributed to American society,” Vergara said.

Vergara had his Asian Pacific American course through ethnic studies make posters on factual experiences that Asian Americans went through.”We want to inform people on some of the facts about Asian Americans,” Vergara said.

According to Vergara, May is a difficult month to have Asian American month due to the stress that students go through with finals and other projects. “We will try to enforce Asian American month in April in the future we hope for more visibility,” Vergara said.
