The University La Verne received the final payment of $798,000 from the estate of Adeline Rosenberg Friedman to cover part of the cost of the new College of Law building. Also, the Fletcher Jones Foundation approved a grant of $300,00 for science lab renovation.

Campus Times Receives Award

The Campus Times was awarded the Gold Medal Certificate for both Fall 2001 and Spring 2002 publications by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, it was announced last week.Over 300 professional journalists across the United States were recruited by the Association to judge the contest. Out of the maximum 1,000 points, the staff achieved the award with 977 points for both semesters.

The Campus Times has been entered in the CSPA Crown Award contest, which will be presented and announced in the 79th annual Scholastic Convention, held at Columbia University from March 19-21.

The awards will be presented at the Roosevelt Hotel on March 22.

ULV welcomes two guest lectures

On Tuesday, Sept. 26, ULV and the Fasnacht Chair of Religion will present lectures by Mary Evelyn Tucker, professor of religion at Bucknell University, and Brian Swimme, director of the Center for the Story of the Universe and instructor of Cosmology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, San Francisco. “The Role of the Human in the Earth Community” will be held in Founders’ Auditorium at 11 a.m. and “The Earth Charter: Rebuilding the Future,” will be in La Fetra Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Learning Enhancement Center

The Career Development and Placement Center and the Financial Aid Office now have new services for students. The Monstertrak website now contains all paid and unpaid internship listings that are received by the Career Development & Placement Center. Students can also search through all current ULV on-campus student employment positions.
