The women’s volleyball team traveled to Elmhurst, Illinois, Sept. 13 and 14 to compete in an eight team tournament, where they earned a split record of 2-2.
Competition was tough for the Leopards facing NCAA Division III Midwest Region ranked opponents, but they pulled through the weekend bringing their overall record to 6-3.
The first two matches were wins for the Leopards beating Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 3-1 (25-30, 30-23, 30-17, 31-29), and North Central College of Illinois, 3-0 (30-25, 30-21, 30-26).
However, the Leopards were upset in the next two matches falling to Wisconsin Whitewater, 3-2 (30-17, 15-30, 24-30, 30-28, 15-13) and Wisconsin Oshkosh, 3-2 (29-31, 30-21, 28-30, 30-14, 7-15).
However, head coach Don Flora feels that the team is right on track, and that the competition this weekend was much tougher than that of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
“We are training hard and playing hard, trying to reach our potential.” Flora said.
Freshman middle-blocker Mandy Sedia was named to the All-Tournament Team for her excellent performances over the weekend.
Flora said Amy Kratochvil and Stacey Lupu showed great play over the tournament as well.
The first conference game will be against the Whittier Poets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Supertents.
