Stacey Lupu, senior women’s volleyball player at the University of La Verne, has been named Female Athlete of the Week for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the week ending Sept. 29.
Lupu, a 6′-0″ middle blocker, received the honor after her outstanding play in the Leopard triumphs over Whittier on Sept. 24 and Redlands on Sept. 27.
Both matches took only three games each to complete, as Lupu led the Leopards to a perfect 6-0 record for the week.
In the match against Whittier, Lupu led the Leopards with 15 kills on 24 attempts for a percentage of .542.
Her threat from the middle continued against Redlands as Lupu pounded 10 kills in the match for a hitting percentage of .600.
Altogether, in the two matches, Lupu accumulated only three hitting errors in over 40 attempts.
She was also a defensive stronghold at the net for ULV as she denied both Bulldog and Poet attackers a total of seven times in the matches. For the six games, she averaged 1.16 blocks per game.
