University head librarian to step down

Marlin Heckman, ULV’s head librarian, announced he will be resigning his position at the end of the 2002-2003 academic year.

Heckman has been working for the university for thirty years. During his tenure, Heckman expanded the Wilson Library volume from 70,000 to 215,000.

A university librarian search committee is being formed with representation from the faculty, the deans and the administration.

The search committee will review the position of the university librarian, determine the experience needed to fill the position, and identify the strengths of leading candidates.

Heckman will begin his retirement by taking an interim sabbatical in the academic year 2004-2005 and will return as the university archivist.

Alpha Lambda Delta

Alpha Lambda Delta, a national honor society at the University of La Verne, has been approved for installation, faculty co-sponsor Kathleen Lamkin announced. Anne Earnest is currently serving as the president, and Barbara Jefferson has dedicated three years of work to the project.

First-year students who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be recognized. An installation ceremony will take place in November.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In remembrance of domestic violence awareness month, Founder and director of the Saving our Families Foundation and the Saving our Women Foundation, Rose Parker, spoke on Wednesday in Founders Hall Auditorium. She was invited by the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority.
