Since 1985, the University of La Verne has enjoyed Sister Mary Dennis Peters, reference librarian, as a source at solace and information in the Wilson Library; but after this year, Sister Mary will be retiring.

She will continue to work part-time, however, for the library after July 1.

Sister Mary, who is a part of St. Lucy’s Priory in Glendora, will be cutting back on her services for the library in order to focus more on her other duties.

“I want to spend more time reading and exploring for my spiritual life,” said Sister Mary, public service librarian and professor.

After returning to California from living in the Mid West, Sister Mary applied for the open position at the library.

Since then, Sister Mary was awarded professor emeritus by President Stephen Morgan, an award that means very much to her.

“I will still be part of the University regardless if I am here or not,” she said.

This summer Sister Mary will travel to Ireland for a Brethren Colleges Abroad seminar representing ULV. She said she will start traveling next week and that is how she will spend her summer.

“My experience here has been very intellectual as well as a great personal experience, one I will never forget,” Sister Mary said.
