Heels for work, school and even for the clubs.
Women on the University of La Verne campus are wearing many high-heeled shoe styles.
After a long day at work some students say they come to school and have to wear their high heels all day.
Some just want a professional look and others say they just love to wear them.
Looking good and feeling good don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand say some fashion critics.
They say many women will spend a lot of money on shoes and clothes to look good, feel good and attract men.
Some ULV students who strut all over campus make wearing heels look easy.
However many women would avoid wearing heels at all costs.
ULV freshmen Taryn Aguilar and Lynsey Padilla said they think wearing heels look very uncomfortable. They said they wear flip-flops almost all the time.
Many students said they prefer sneakers and leave the high heels for the weekend.
“I can’t wear high heels to school, I only wear them on Sunday,” said Sarah Booker, a ULV student.
“I think girls are just used to wearing heels,” Booker said.
“I love to wear high heels almost every day of the week,” said Beatrice Velasquez, a Cal State University Fullerton senior. “If I am not wearing heels I am wearing sandals with a platform.”
Sofia Palma, an employee at Bakers shoe store in Ontario Mills, said that black open-toe heels are popular. For winter the closed-toe pointy heels will be in style.
“Half of our merchandise is heels and they have always been in style,” said Cherise Kolby, supervisor of the Nine West shoe store in Ontario Mills.
For winter the brown, tan and teal colored heels are their upcoming styles.
Heels have been around for awhile and can be traced back to ancient times as Egyptian murals showed women sporting stiletto-like footwear. Some European women once wore heels that were so incredibly high, they had to walk with a cane.
The first high heel factory opened in the United States in 1888.
This stopped most people from importing their favorite heels.
Stilettos then became the favorite in the ‘50s.
From cork-bottom platform shoes to to hip sneakers and the pointy-tip sexy heel, a number of different styles have evolved over the years and materials such as leather, suede, snake, satin and denim have been used in different designs.
Mules, the Marilyn Monroe classic style heels which are usually open toe, sandal heels that have many straps around the ankle, and pump heels which are usually closed toe heels a bit higher than normal pumps, are just a few styles that have gained popularity in recent decades.
Women’s shoes have evolved and changed according to the times and current trends, but it looks like heels will always be in style for women.
At this point, there is a high heel for every occasion, from the special to the ordinary.
