The Campus Activities Board and Sigma Kappa sorority co-hosted the Pink and Purple Party at 10 p.m. on Monday in Davenport.
The Pink and Purple Party was an event to raise awareness for breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
Pink is the color that represents breast cancer and purple is the color that represents Alzheimer’s.
“We wanted to continue breast cancer awareness for the month of October and since it is so close to November we thought it would be nice to include Sigma Kappa and their Alzheimer’s philanthropy,” Erika Barajas the philanthropy chair for CAB and a sophomore chemistry major said.
The food, drinks and decorations at the event were all pink and purple to show support.
Karaoke was set up to provide entertainment for the evening. The karaoke was a big hit and people were getting up to sing more than just once.
Some of the crowd favorites were performances to songs by the Spice Girls, Usher, Sir-Mix-Alot and Boys II Men.
“All the food was really good and I think that the room looked awesome with all the decorations. It was a really fun event and I am glad that Sigma Kappa was included in helping to raise money for two great causes with CAB,” Brittany Hines, the foundation chair for Sigma Kappa sorority and a junior political science major, said.
There were about 75 people in attendance at the party.
CAB and Sigma Kappa raised close to $100 to be split between breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease charities.
“The event was really great and we are glad that so many people came out to support this cause,” Cindel de los Reyes, the special events chair for CAB and a sophomore movement and sports science and business major, said.
The event was a huge success and everyone that went had a really good time hanging out, enjoying the entertainment and supporting two great charities.
It was a great way for students to get involved to end Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to kick off Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.
