Prospective students found out what life at the University of La Verne is really like at the annual Spotlight event.
Spotlight is a day dedicated to prospective students who, accompanied by their parents, can come, ask questions, tour the campus and spend a day with current University students.
The event started when students and parents were directed to the gym to hear ULV President Stephen Morgan, give a speech and a brief history of the University.
After the speech, parents and students went their separate ways.
Parents chose between three informational sessions to attend: financial aid, the University and the majors offered.
Vice President of Enrollment Homa Shabahang was there to greet the parents and answer questions.
“I used to work at the University of San Francisco, but what I like about the University of La Verne is the personalized help each and every student gets,” Shabahang said.
Prospective students were taken to their spotlight leaders, who incorporated the students into different activities and shared their views about the University.
“This is my first time doing this and I love it. I love the fact that I can motivate students to attend La Verne, and I’ve just had fun all day,” said Ashley Rodriguez, a junior business administration major and spotlight leader.
The students also attended breakout sessions about topics like financial aid, living on campus and student life.
“I really like that it’s a school where everyone is friendly and most people know each other. I’m also thinking of going into theatre arts and this school is just about right,” said Jose Arias, a prospective student from Woodrow Wilson High School in Los Angeles.
After the sessions, parents and students reunited for lunch at the Quad. LeoFM and other campus organizations and academic programs had booths that showcased what they had to offer.
The day ended with an optional tour of the campus.
