La Verne junior and stand out golfer Mitch Fedorka earned the 2009 Lee Fulmer Player of the Year Award, given annually to the top golfer in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Fedorka, coming off of a stellar year, set a La Verne and SCIAC conference scoring record with an average of 69.29 in conference play and an overall scoring record of 72.63.

Fedorka was an individual medalist at two of the five SCIAC 18-hole tournaments. Fedorka was also a SCIAC conference champion this season.

Although Fedorka plays with highly talented teammates, two of which, Rizal Amin and Andrew Kramer, were named to the all SCIAC first team, with a third teammate, Kevin Smith, named to second team all SCIAC, Fedorka was able to stand out.

On Monday, Fedorka and the rest of his accomplished teammates, helped wrap up SCIAC conference play with a 10-stroke win at the SCIAC 36-Hole Championship in Moorpark to capture the Leopards’ third straight SCIAC conference win.

Fedorka was also able to win the individual title.

“Mitch is the kind of guy you love to coach,” said head coach Joe Skovron. “He listens, works hard and is always looking to get better.”

ULV is currently competing in the NCAA Championships at Port St. Lucie, Fla.

They find themselves in a tie for fifth place after one round.

Fedorka holds a share of the individual lead with five under round of 67.

Collectively the team shot a four over 292.

Methodist University is currently in first, shooting a combined 279.

The tournament began Wednesday and will run through Saturday.
