Bollywood transforms Campus Center ballroom.

Bollywood and the Indian culture took center stage at the Campus Activities Board’s Bollywood Night on Wednesday.
The event, which was held at 10 p.m. in Ballroom A of the Campus Center, featured CAB Chair Naime Laskar teaching those in attendance a Bollywood dance.
“We don’t currently have a multicultural chair so since I’m CAB chair I took it upon myself to throw a Bollywood night to bring awareness about the Indian culture to the La Verne community,” Laskar said.
Laskar, who has been Bollywood dancing since the sixth grade was a patient and enthusiastic teacher for all those learning how to Bollywood dance for the first time.
A group of six students were taught the dance while others watched. Laskar taught the dance step-by-step, playing the music each time a group of steps was perfected.
Narrating each step, Laskar prompted the dancers with combinations like “Circle, circle, hands up, hands up, pull, rainbow, pull, rainbow, clap, clap, clap, clap.”
All of the students had a fairly easy time picking up the steps while enjoying themselves in the process. The dance was choreographed to a song titled “Twist” from the Hindi movie “Love Aaj Kal.”
“The music was great,” Ashley Cole, a freshman psychology major said.
“I think CAB should have more events like this,” Cole said.
Another aspect that added to the appreciation from the students is how the event shed light on a part of the Indian culture.
“I thought it was very unique and it was a good diversity event,” Ashley Dunn, a senior liberal studies major said.
“It was enlightening and showed a side of a culture we don’t see too often,” Dunn said.
Traditional Indian appetizers were also served which were enjoyed by the students who attended.
With the positive response from the event, Laskar said that CAB hopes to do more of this kind of event in the future.
