The long-awaited parking lot, which spans roughly between D Street and the Athletic Pavilion will open Tuesday.
This lot will be the biggest on campus, with 332 spaces.
Currently the largest parking lot is on the east side of the Wilson Library, with 105 parking spaces.
“Parking lot D will not solve all the parking issues, but it is a huge step forward for the University,” said Chip West, senior director of central services and capital planning.
The lot will feature bright white light at night.
There will be several motorcycle-designated parking spaces and a car counter, the first of its kind on campus.
The feature was added in hopes that it will prevent students and faculty from circling the lots in search of a spot that may not be there.
Although the new lot will not completely resolve all the University’s parking issues, it will help.
It will bring cars parked in the surrounding community back on campus.
“I think the new lot will help, but there will still be problems with parking, because of the enrollment increase with commuters,” junior liberal studies major Jannette Arteaga said.
Although the lot will be ready for use on Tuesday, its access will be somewhat limited.
The north entrance of the lot nearest to the dorm construction site will be closed daily until 4 p.m. while work on the new dorms is underway.
