Practicing to protect and serve

Members of the La Verne Police Department spent eight hours Tuesday on rapid deployment tactical training exercises, which took place in an empty warehouse at the south end of A Street. The site also houses temporary off-site parking for the University of La Verne campus. As part of the exercises the officers learned defense tactics and search techniques. Sgt. Ray Steitz said the officers know when they have been hit because they are actually hit with non-lethal bullets that are like “paintballs on steroids.” / photo by Brittney Slater-Shew
