Kicking up dirt at Ortmayer Stadium

Demolition on the Ortmayer Stadium track and field began Monday. The stadium was constructed in 1990 and first used for the 1991 football season. At the time it was considered one of the premier track and field facilities in the Inland Valley. However, La Verne has not hosted a track meet in the past four years because of the track’s poor condition. The new complex will include an artificial turf field that will be used by the football team and the men’s and women’s soccer teams. A state-of-the-art track is also being installed for the men’s and women’s track and field teams. ADA compliant paths are also being constructed around the stadium. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-summer. / photo by Scott Mirimanian

With the new Ortmayer Stadium build on the horizon, workers man tractors to rip up the old rust red track. This leaves one more sport without a place to practice on Campus. The track team will temporarily use Damien High School’s track and field to practice until the new stadium is ready to go. / photo by Zachary Horton
