Dining hall should remain open

Over spring break, many students who live on campus stayed in housing for the break for different reasons. Many athletes involved in spring sports stay as do other students who live far away and cannot afford to fly home. Our spring break is only one week long, so why do the people left on campus have nowhere to eat? Both Barb’s and Davenport are closed for the week, leaving the students to buy food off campus.

When the cost for a meal plan ranges from $2,370 to $2,820 a semester, those who stayed on campus should be offered meals after paying the high cost. Eating out is expensive and besides the microwaves in the dorms, there are not many ways for students to cook a meal on their own. At least one of the cafeterias should be open and serving food for those who had to stay on campus. Those working at the dining halls are getting paid and some of them may have wanted the money or work hours over the break as well.
