Volleyball tailgate sparks spirit

The Campus Activities Board hosted a tailgate for the volleyball team Tuesday at the Rock.

The tailgate was held before the Leopards’ home game against No.9 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to support the team and show school spirit.

“They’ve been doing really well and I wanted to show them support,” Reanna Hilario, junior broadcast journalism major and CAB spirit chair, said. “We want to start a student section at the game.”

CAB provided free food and ULV gear like water bottles, megaphones, stickers, posters and colored hairspray. They also held a raffle to win a lanyard and ULV T-shirt.

“I think it’s a great idea,” Jessica Loomer, senior English major, said. “I like that Reanna is having people walk over to the game together. This is touching parts of campus that may not know about the game or go.”

CAB expected about 50 students to go to the volleyball game and fill a student section.

Hilario hopes to continue holding tailgate events for sports teams that have less support than others.

“Basketball gets Midnight Madness and football gets Homecoming, so I wanted to do something for volleyball,” Hilario said.
