A safety alert email was sent to University of La Verne students this week after an incident targeting a Bonita High School student Monday.
A man reportedly followed the Bonita student in his car as she was walking to school on Eighth Street around 7:30 a.m.
The man yelled at the student to get her attention. The student saw that the man was naked from the waist down and was committing a sexual act. The student immediately went to the school office to report it.
The man is described as thin, dark complexioned, in his 20s, with short black hair and a black beard. He was last seen in sunglasses and a gray polo shirt, with a lanyard around his neck containing an ID card. He was driving a white, newer-model four-door sedan.
The La Verne Police Department plans to increase patrols in the area during the times students are walking to and from school.
“The best thing to do is try your best to not panic and try to get a thorough description and get to a safe place,” Interim Senior Director of Campus Safety and Transportation Jeff Clark said. “Try to get a description of the vehicle, license plate, the person and any information that will help get this person later down the road.”
There are currently no suspects in custody. Anyone with further information is encouraged to call LVPD at 909-596-1913.
The University urges to be observant of any suspicious behavior and to report it to LVPD and the La Verne Campus Safety Department at 909-448-4950.
