‘Driest Seasons’
The Carlson Gallery presents “The Driest Seasons: California’s Dust Bowl,” a photographic documentary on the social effects of the drought on farming communities in the San Joaquin Valley by Los Angeles Times staff photographer Michael Robinson Chávez. The gallery is located on the ground floor of Miller Hall. The exhibit runs through March 24.
‘Recent Work’
The West Gallery presents Jessica Wimbley’s “Recent Work,” which integrates photography, drawing and painting into single images. The exhibit runs through March 31. Admission is free. The West Gallery is located in the Campus Center and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Writing Contest
The 2016 ULV Literary Creative Writing Contest is accepting submissions until March 1. The competition is open to ULV undergraduate students who may submit one entry each. Submissions can be fiction or non-fiction stories six to 15 pages or one to five poems. Previous years’ winners are ineligible. Entries may be emailed to prismreview@laverne.edu with “ULV Literary Contest” in the subject line. The winning entry will be published in the Prism Review literary magazine and announced at the Prism Review launch in May. The winner will also receive a $100 gift card. ‘Heroes and Legends’
The ULV Chorale and Chamber Singers will perform a concert entitled “Heroes and Legends” March 5 in Morgan Auditorium. The concert is at 3 p.m. and is free, but donations will be accepted.
