The La Verne City Council approved an ordinance to increase speed limits on nine streets Tuesday during its semi-monthly meeting.
The ordinance, approved without discussion, will increase speed limits by five miles per hour on B Street, Damien Avenue, Esperanza Drive, Palomares Avenue, Sedalia Avenue, Towne Center Drive and Yeager Avenue. Additionally the Council put in place a “senior zone” that will require motorists to slow their speed to 25 miles per hour in the areas surrounding Brethren Hillcrest Homes retirement community.
The new speed limits will be effective in March.
The change will cost the city $3,500 according the Agenda Report by Director of Public Works Dan Keesey.
The change comes after a three-month long speed survey covering 59 streets in La Verne.
