The University of La Verne has named head baseball coach Scott Winterburn as interim director of athletics.
Winterburn has led the baseball team for 17 seasons during which he has guided the Leopards to four Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles.
He stepped in for former director Julie Kline, who is returning to the classroom as a professor of kinesiology after leading the department for the last nine years.
The University of La Verne is searching for a permanent athletics director.
“Scott Winterburn has been a mentor of mine since I first stepped foot on this campus 11 years ago,” Richard Reed, head basketball coach, said. “He does a tremendous job building bridges and helps people accomplish their goals.
“As far as his role as athletic director, if you talk to people in this department, (he) is very intelligent and detail-oriented and above of all he cares about people, so I think he’ll be a tremendous asset in that role,” Reed added.
