With the start of the academic year, the College of Arts and Sciences has announced two new administrative appointments.

Brian Clocksin, professor of kinesiology, was named associate dean for effectiveness, planning and faculty affairs, and Roy Kwon, assistant professor of sociology, became the new director of the honors program.

Clocksin, who came to the University in 2012, served as chairman of the kinesiology department since 2012.

In his new position, Clocksin will oversee recruitment and hiring of new faculty for the college, as well as college-wide assessment initiatives and faculty reviews.

“He was very easy to work with as a professor,” said Lan-Ning Blue, a sophomore kinesiology major.

Kwon, who also joined the La Verne faculty in 2012, has taught in the honors program previously. He said that this semester he has begun acclimating to the new position.

“By next year it will be my full blown version of the program,” Kwon said.

Kwon is popular among honors students.

“Roy will be a great fit for his new position,” sophomore sociology major Brianna Salcedo said. “He has always made learning fun and interesting. He seems to care a lot about his students.”

The honors program will be looking at such things as recruitment, community engagement and student scholarships and grants, Kwon said.
