Faculty, students and families enjoyed the 21st Annual Las Posadas celebration, hosted by the Latino Student Forum last Friday in the Campus Center Ballroom.
Las Posadas, a traditional Mexican celebration from Dec. 16 to Dec. 24, marks the birth of Jesus with a re-enactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for a place to spend the night.
In addition to the re-enactment this year, the event featured a performance by Mariachi Las Lindas Mexicanas, an all-woman mariachi band; a buffet including chicken and steak fajitas, enchiladas, and more; and a visit by Santa Claus.
“This is our second year coming to (this),” said Lupe Aguilera, whose daughter, Kassandra Aguilera, is a senior business administration major and the president of the Latino Student Forum.
Lupe Aguilera, originally from Guanajuato, Mexico, said she remembers attending similar events when she was a child.
She said small neighborhoods came together to celebrate with candy-filled piñatas and other activities.
