Though it is located in Upland, students of the University of La Verne find themselves longing for one of the many flavored tea options from the trendy boba cafe Tpumps.
Tyra Farouq, store manager, said the shop is so popular because of their barista promise.
“If you are not satisfied with the sweetness level or flavor of your Tpumps drink, we will be more than happy to fix it or make another drink for you to enjoy,” Farouq said.
Farouq also said Tpumps is a popular choice among its customers because of the long list of flavors.
Tpumps features black, green tea and decaffeinated teas, as well as premium teas like Oolong for an added charge.
They also offer four types of milk, including lactose-free options and more than 37 different flavors.
When picking up drinks from the counter, baristas ask if customers like their drink and will offer to remake it if they are unsatisfied.
“It’s like Pieology for boba,” said Tpumps employee, Marvhic Guinto. “You can customize any flavor to create whatever you want. My favorite is caramel peppermint hazelnut milk tea.”
Tpumps has a catering service called Tpumps Pop Up Shop, which has become a regular presence at La Verne.
Sigma Kappa hosted a Tpumps fundraiser on campus, Monday.
“Our Tpumps fundraiser sold out so fast,” said Katie Scully, Sigma Kappa public relations officer and sophomore biology major.
Scully said Tpumps’ youthful atmosphere allows for a fun experience, calling for its popularity.
“We chose Tpumps because it’s really popular and everyone loves it. All of the proceeds go towards our Maine Man Expo this week,” Scully said.
Tpumps offers a discount on Tuesdays which gives customers a large drink for the price of a small one.
Farouq said that the Tuesday discount attracts a large number of customers, with lines usually stretching outside the door.
“I always go to Tpumps on Tuesdays,” junior math major Alexa Jones said. “It’s like a social ritual for me and my friends.”
Tpumps is a relatively small shop. Accompanied with couches and tables, it is a relaxed setting that is filled with students from the neighboring Upland High School from 3 p.m. to well past 4 p.m.
“The busiest day of the week is Tuesday,” Farouq said. “The most crowded times during the week are 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. because that’s when most students get out of school. On the weekends noon to 2 p.m. is usually the rush.”
Tpumps is located at 657 W. Foothill Blvd. in Upland.
The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
