About 15 entrepreneurs gathered Wednesday at the Rising Professionals event at La Verne’s Third Street Wine Shop to mingle and consider volunteer opportunities in the community.
The organization, which holds monthly events with various themes, was created to bring local business people together to network.
Originally called Rising Professionals and New Entrepreneurs, the group was started by the San Dimas Chamber of Commerce.
Today it includes entrepreneurs from across the east East San Gabriel Valley.
Morgan Sternquist, volunteer and special events coordinator at Pomona Valley Habitat for Humanity, was the speaker at Wednesday’s event.
While volunteers are critical to Habitat’s work of building homes for low-income families, volunteering has many benefits for entrepreneurs as well, Sternquist said.
Volunteering gives entrepreneurs networking opportunities and strengthens communities, she said.
She added that she worked as a volunteer and worked her way up.
