The University of La Verne Center for Multicultural Services debuted  its weekly discussion series Real Talk on Wednesday. The series aims to provide students and staff a platform for open discussions on various social, environmental and campus issues.

“Having this safe space to discuss in because of the feeling we created and be able to talk about the things that really matter,” Daisy Perez, creator of Real Talk and senior television broadcast major said.

Perez said she created the event in an effort to create a place where people felt they can speak honestly on important issues.

The discussion at the inaugural event was centered around the various effects social media has on children, teens, and adults.

The event is held Wednesdays from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Center for Multicultural Studies.
