Claremont catches a glimpse of soul

Around a hundred people came out to the Claremont Village for another weekly Friday Nights Live concert May 10 to hears bands that performed soft rock, jazz and blues.

The performances included: the soft rock band Soulshine, the duo of singer AnaMaria de la Cruz and guitarist Mark Dzula, the classic rock band Random Spark and the instrumental jazz band Jazz City. 

“I love hearing the different bands play each Friday night,” Amber Baker, Covina resident, said. “We also enjoy the music with the different people we come to know over the years. I love coming to have a good date night.”

Baker said Soulshine was groovy and passionate which made their singing authentic.

“This is one of my favorite places to play because you get to see and meet new people who get to listen to music,” Soulshine singer Stacey Roser-Sturgis from Upland said.

“My favorite part of performing is the interaction with the public and I love being able to actually perform and give myself to the audience.” Karl Carrasco, Soulshine musician from West Covina, said.

Jazz City played at Shelton Park where families and young children were seen dancing to the instrumental tunes. 

“The atmosphere is very cool,” Lisa Thomas, Claremont resident, said. “People from all over come to a hangout. Children play around, people dance and the weather is nice.

The free concerts run from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday through Oct. 25.
