Police need to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated

The Los Angeles Police Department now requires all officers to be vaccinated to continue to work there.

Suppose the people who stand and protect the citizens refuse to do their part by getting vaccinated. In that case, they are not protecting their community by exposing other people to the possibility of contracting a deadly virus.

Many New York Police Department employees vowed to retire their positions because vaccine mandates were put into place. However, many complied with the mandates, with only a few quitting in protest.

According to the Washington Post, out of the 10,000 police officers who protested the mandate, only 34 ended up leaving in protest to the vaccine mandate.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has put out many statistics and research that show that the vaccine is effective with only slight symptoms.

The Los Angeles Department of Public Health website has repeatedly demonstrated with various charts and graphs that the positivity rates of COVID in Los Angeles have decreased dramatically. This can be attributed to the strict vaccine and mask mandates across the county.  This week the seven-day daily average of positive test outcomes was 1.08%.

The positive rate is one of the lowest in the country. It is important to note that Los Angeles is one of the most populated cities, so having a positive rate of 1% is a remarkable number.

The vaccines are given in small doses and on two separate occasions. Side effects are generally mild. Now children 5 or older have been approved for the Pfizer vaccine by the.

If the best scientists in the country have approved children to take the vaccine, police officers should rest assured that they too can handle the vaccine.

Police are the face of public safety. They must demonstrate that they care for the protection of others by completing this now required task of getting vaccinated. How can we trust them to protect us if they refuse?
