Swap meet unites car enthusiasts

The Fairplex in Pomona, home to the recurring Pomona Swap Meet and Classic Car Show, gave car enthusiasts a show while they shopped for car parts and accessories on Oct. 16.

The lot was filled with classic cars, some that were intended to be sold and some just parked as a display of the car’s beauty. The swap meet sold stuff, from toys to car parts, and more.

“We love it, we love classic cars and old (stuff),” Sherry Filapelli of Gardena who came out for the event.

The Swap Meet went from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it took over most of the Fairplex parking lot, with hundreds of car enthusiasts there to explore.

“It’s cool,” said Chris Zepeda, who came from Los Angeles. “It’s my first time here, so it’s pretty cool seeing these old school cars.”

Some notable cars on view were a Volkswagen Beetle, a Chevrolet El Camino and a Ford Shelby Mustang.

Not everyone was there for the cars. Ryan Picano of Pasadena scored art pieces and antique furniture because, he said,  he likes the vintage feel for his home.

“I have bought a few things for the garage … but other than that I spent too much money for sure,” Picano.

The next Pomona Swap Meet and Classic Car show will be on Dec. 4 at the Fairplex in Pomona.
